In this wiki we evolve a narrative frame for a pattern language of activist life, making a living economy. In another wiki - more slowly! - we develop specific pattern descriptions. At this early stage, we only develop patterns for pattern families; detail will come later. Evolving the frame calls for time and conversations and collaborations across a radically diverse community in the mutual sector.

Here we describe how the landscapes of practice and the zones of reach can generate a 'weave' of imaginative spaces that is rich enough to be a container for a pattern language of activist practice in making a living economy.
NARRATIVE - STARTS HERE
We are engaged in the making of a living economy. This is no small concern. The hegemonic economy - globalised, capitalist, extractive, enclosed, supremacist and absurdly powerful - is appallingly and recklessly harmful. Here we begin to frame that engagement in a pattern language of activist life and work: a politics of regenetaive production.
The practice of making a living economy rests in the foundational commitment of 'blessed unrest' in the mutual sector - global civil society, in its economic aspect - in the face of clear and present danger. We recognise the scope of the challenge in terms of four 'zones of reach' for activist practice: care work, subsistence work, formación work, stewarding work.
Enormous scope and capability is called for in making a living economy. It can be organised better if we see it as a dance of capability across four zones of reach.
ZONES OF REACH - START HERE
A fundamental dimension of making a living economy is the remaking on the heart-mind, so that humans can stand in truly altered, generous, well founded relationships with humans and with the more-than-human, in deep time. We speak of this as 'care work'.
The materiality of the real economy is enormously complex and diverse, ranging from wild nature, through so-called domesticated nature (the 'second nature' of 'the economy', to the weird sphere of digital means. We weave all this in relationship together, through practices of subsistence work, within the doughnut.
Here we engage the field of formación work - capabilities to intentionally know, to vision, to communicate, to organise: to choreograph and dance a living economy.
Here we engage the problematic and profoundly intractable zone of relationships 'over the horizon', in many future times and present regions. This is the field of stewarding work.
